Underwater Audio's Guide to OverDrive

This guide is for Delphin Users.

We recommend that first-time users follow this help page step by step, from top to bottom.

First we will cover what you need to use OverDrive on your Delphin, then we will cover first time setup, and finally we will provide troubleshooting resources.

What you'll need

A strong WiFi connection

While making any changes to your playlists or while downloading your music or audiobooks, you must be connected to a strong WiFi connection. We recommend being as physically close to your WiFi router as possible. Due to the efficiency of the waterproofing on a Delphin, it does have a shorter WiFi range than other comparable electronic devices.

An OverDrive account

To start you will need an OverDrive account. If you do not have one already, we recommend setting up an account on either your Computer or Phone to have an easier time with your keyboard and screen size. We also recommend creating your swimming playlists this way as well. This link will take you to OverDrive’s website for signing up for an account (US users).

Unfortunately, Libby is currently not compatible with the Delphin.

An Amazon account or an OverDrive APK

There are two methods for downloading the OverDrive app onto your Delphin:

  • If you have an Amazon account, you can download the OverDrive app through the Amazon Appstore on the Delphin.
  • If you don't have an Amazon account, but have access to a computer, you can download an APK of the OverDrive app and install it that way.

Step 1

Download OverDrive onto your Delphin

For downloading OverDrive from the Amazon Appstore:

  • If you're setting up your new Delphin for the first time:

Your Delphin may present an option to download the Amazon App Store to you during the set-up process. Click on it to download.

  • If you have already set up your Delphin and want to add a new app:

Open the Help App by tapping Blue Question Mark on your home screen, and then selecting ‘Install Apps’. The Amazon App Store should appear on the list of popular apps. Click on it to download.

Once you have the Amazon App Store downloaded, enter your login information and sign in. Search for 'OverDrive' and install.

(Tip: If you will be using OverDrive frequently, we recommend adding it to the home screen of your Delphin for easy access. To add applications to your home screen, hold down on your home screen until white borders appear. Select the space you want OverDrive or any other app to go, then select the app in the menu that appears. Once you are satisfied with your home screen, click the back button to lock in your settings!)

Step 2

Sign into OverDrive on your Delphin

Open OverDrive by clicking on the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and selecting the app. Enter your username and password when prompted and submit. Your sign-in information may be your library card number and pin. Your pin number is often just the last four digits of your library card, but this varies from library to library.

(Tip: Your Delphin's screen may turn off quickly between steps during set-up. To make setting up and installing anything on your Delphin easier, go to Home Screen > Help App (Blue Question Mark) > Open Android Settings > Display > Sleep and choose a longer sleep time, like 10 minutes, to keep the screen from going dark too quickly. We recommend going back and turning the screen down to a lower time after you have finished setting up your apps as keeping the display screen on drains battery life.)

Remote Connect

Remote Connect is optional, but it makes logging into your apps much easier.

Remote connect will enable you to log into your apps using your iPhone or Android smartphone. This is extremely useful when you are getting your Delphin ready for the pool for the first time.

Step 3

Download audiobooks for the pool

Before you head to the pool, you will need to get your apps ready for offline use, as WiFi doesn't work in the water.

Turn on your sound and watch this short video to learn how the process is done in OverDrive.

Here is a brief overview of the process

1. Open OverDrive by clicking on the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and selecting the app. Sign in to your account.

2. You should see an option to “Add a Title”. Click on the Plus (+) and scroll through audiobooks or search for a title to borrow it. When you find an audiobook you would like to check out, just click the green borrow button. It will prompt you to select the number of days you want to borrow the book. Confirm to borrow it.

3. Download the audiobook by clicking “Download MP3 Audiobook”.

4. Once your audiobook is downloaded, test it out by playing it with your WiFi off. If your audiobook plays while your WiFi is off, you're all set!

(Tip: You can turn your WiFi off by swiping down from the top of your screen until you see a volume slider, and selecting WiFi to turn it off. Then, you can swipe that screen away by putting your finger at the bottom of your screen and swiping upward. You can also turn it off by going back to your home screen and clicking the blue question mark to open the Help App > Open Android Settings > Network > WiFi > then toggling WiFi off at the top right.)

Make sure you are filtering your library for audiobooks only. Downloading regular books onto the Delphin will not allow you to listen to them in the pool.

Troubleshooting

Here are some troubleshooting resources to help get you swimming with music!

OverDrive also has great help pages and information. This link will take you to OverDrive's Support page if you need any other help, such as resetting your password, login details, or troubleshooting.

How do I remove an audiobook from my Delphin?

On your Delphin, open OverDrive by clicking on the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and selecting the app. Click the top-left icon of three stacked lines (≡) and select 'Bookshelf'. Scroll to find the audiobook that you would like to remove and just to the right of the title, select the three-dot menu (⋮) and click ‘Return to Library’. It will ask you to confirm that you are returning the title to the library which will delete it from the Delphin for you. Select ‘Yes’.

How do I uninstall the OverDrive app on my Delphin?

On the home screen of your Delphin, click the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and scroll until you find your OverDrive app. Hold down on the app until a new menu appears. Select 'Uninstall.' We recommend turning your Delphin off and back on again after uninstalling.

My OverDrive books are not playing while off of WiFi or they are missing.

There are a couple of things that can cause this issue:

1. Make sure your playlists are downloaded onto your Delphin by following Step 3 above.

2. OverDrive will automatically return books once they've reached their return date.
