As with any riding sport, surfboards come in all shapes and sizes. And what you need to be
successful on the waves depends on what type of board and waves you’re surfing.
So here is a list and description for some of the main types of boards and what they can do for your riding.
I think it’s long enough
So the first board we are going to talk about is the longboard. These boards run between 9 and 12
feet and most of the time it only has one fin.
This board is meant for gliding on the waves. Due to its size its not as maneuverable as the shorter boards but it does offer a lot more stability.
Also, it lets you perform the most famous surfing trick, the hang 10.
Ok maybe a little smaller
If a long board isn’t your thing then try a funboard. They are a little smaller then a longboard, running
about 7 to 9 feet.
They have the same shape as a longboard does, but because they are smaller you have a lot more maneuverability in the water which gives you more chances to do tricks.
The next smallest board is the Shortboard.
These guys are only 5 to 7 feet long. This board, because of its size, allows for greater mobility for tricks and sharp cuts.
But also, be careful if this sounds like fun because it is so small you don’t have nearly as much stability. So if you’re not experienced you could spend a lot of time falling.
smaller still? well ok
The last one we are going to talk about is called the Tow-In.
This board is about 5 to 6 feet so its
the smallest we are talking about but its made for the biggest waves out there.
That’s right folks… This board is used to ride the biggest waves around.
These boards are for the most experienced surfers offering a lot of control making big wave surfing possible.
So what will it be?
So what kind of board will you ride? The slow glide or the fast tricky ride?
