Annoying and Rude Swimming Habits to Break

May 01, 2015 0 Comments

We all know what it feels like to get annoyed at the pool. But what if we are the one’s guilty of being annoying? I would want to know if I was inadvertently causing anyone grief. Wouldn’t you?
So, let’s go over some pool etiquette and the do’s and don’ts of sharing a lane at the pool.

5Personal Space

I understand that it’s easier to swim in someone’s draft. But when you are sharing a lane at the pool, it can be aggravating. This isn’t open water swimming. It makes people feel claustrophobic.
Sometimes, you may actually graze the person in front’s feet. This is never appreciated. It can be compared to giving someone a flat tire in the pool. Nobody is a fan of this.

Ask Before Jumping Into Someone’s Lane

6It’s just simple pool etiquette. It’s not cool to just jump into someone’s lane and interrupt his or her set. They may be in the middle of a really long swim and you just threw off their pace.
In turn, it is also good pool etiquette that if you ask to share, that person has to say yes or else it’s kind of rude. So, don’t worry about them saying, “No.”  However, it is always thoughtful to look for someone that is about the same skill level as you and ask them to split a lane if possible, instead. That way, you won’t feel like you are getting in anyone’s way.
