This particular swimming book that I’m about to review is a little bit more unique. It deals heavily in anatomy and science. Which I think is fascinating but not everyone does. So, I thought I’d start off with that disclaimer. One thing is for certain, if you are looking to swim better, this book is for you!

“Swimming Anatomy” By: Ian McLeod

swimming anatomyThis book is so awesome! It helps me understand what my body is actually doing when it’s in the water. And that’s the key… UNDERSTANDING. Once, we know what is happening, we can control the outcome of our swim so much better. That’s what this book has enabled me to do
Swimming Anatomy will show you how to improve your performance by increasing muscle strength and optimizing the efficiency of every stroke.” I feel as though my strokes have become more intentional. There is a body awareness that exists now that I never had before. It has definitely made a positive difference in my swim.
Not only do I feel more knowledgable, but this book also offers direction. That way, you know how to use the new facts you’ve learned. It “includes 74 of the most effective swimming exercises, each with step-by-step descriptions and full-color anatomical illustrations highlighting the primary muscles in action.” This feature really helped me in the application portion of technique improvement. First, you’ve got to get the corrections solidified in your head. Then, it’s time to implement what’s in your head with your body. The step-by-step exercises helped me with phase 2.

Bring Some Music to the water

Underwater Audio ipod shuffleUnderwater Audio has produced an amazing Waterproof iPod Shuffle. Now, you can listen to music in the water while you swim!
It’s definitely nice to have some calming background noise when you want to get in the zone and fix your swim technique. With that said, I highly recommend trying one out!
