Underwater Audio's Guide to Tidal

This guide is for Delphin Users.

We recommend that first-time users follow this help page step by step, from top to bottom.

First we will cover what you need to use Tidal on your Delphin, then we will cover first time setup, and finally we will provide troubleshooting resources.

What you'll need

A strong WiFi connection

While making any changes to your playlists or while downloading your music, you must be connected to a strong WiFi connection. We recommend being as physically close to your WiFi router as possible. Due to the efficiency of the waterproofing on a Delphin, it does have a shorter WiFi range than other comparable electronic devices.

A Tidal account

To start you will need a Tidal account. If you do not have one already, we recommend setting up an account on either your Computer or Phone to have an easier time with your keyboard and screen size. We also recommend creating your swimming playlists this way as well.

A paid Tidal subscription

In order to listen to music in the pool, you will need a paid subscription to a Tidal account that allows offline listening: Either the $9.99/mo Individual, or one of the HiFi, Family, or Student accounts will work. A free membership will not be able to play offline while swimming. This link will take you to Tidal’s website for learning more about the different subscription tiers.

An Amazon account or a Tidal APK

There are two methods for downloading the Tidal app onto your Delphin:

  • If you have an Amazon account, you can download the Tidal app through the Amazon Appstore on the Delphin.
  • If you don't have an Amazon account, but have access to a computer, you can download an APK of the Tidal app and install it that way.

Step 1

Download Tidal onto your Delphin

For downloading Tidal from the Amazon Appstore:

  • If you're setting up your new Delphin for the first time:

Your Delphin may present an option to download the Amazon App Store to you during the set-up process. Click on it to download.

  • If you have already set up your Delphin and want to add a new app:

Open the Help App by tapping Blue Question Mark on your home screen, and then selecting ‘Install Apps’. The Amazon App Store should appear on the list of popular apps. Click on it to download.

Once you have the Amazon App Store downloaded, enter your login information and sign in. Search for 'Tidal' and install.

(Tip: If you will be using Tidal frequently, we recommend adding it to the home screen of your Delphin for easy access. To add applications to your home screen, hold down on your home screen until white borders appear. Select the space you want Tidal or any other app to go, then select the app in the menu that appears. Once you are satisfied with your home screen, click the back button to lock in your settings!)

Step 2

Sign into Tidal on your Delphin

Open Tidal by clicking on the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and selecting the app. Depending on how you created your account, choose the Google, Facebook, or 'Log In' option for email. Enter your username and password and submit.

(Tip: Your Delphin's screen may turn off quickly between steps during set-up. To make setting up and installing anything on your Delphin easier, go to Home Screen > Help App (Blue Question Mark) > Open Android Settings > Display > Sleep and choose a longer sleep time, like 10 minutes, to keep the screen from going dark too quickly. We recommend going back and turning the screen down to a lower time after you have finished setting up your apps as keeping the display screen on drains battery life.)

Remote Connect

Remote Connect is optional, but it makes logging into your apps much easier.

Remote connect will enable you to log into your apps using your iPhone or Android smartphone. This is extremely useful when you are getting your Delphin ready for the pool for the first time.

Step 3

Download playlists for the pool

Before you head to the pool, you will need to get your apps ready for offline use, as WiFi doesn't work in the water.

Turn on your sound and watch this short video to learn how the process is done in Tidal.

Here is a brief overview of the process

1. Open Tidal by clicking on the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and selecting the app. Sign in to your account.

2. Choose a playlist from the 'My Collection' section.

3. Hold down on your selected playlist, then press 'Download'.

You can also download albums and pre-made mixes that Tidal creates in the same manner. Just go to the mix or album of your choice and hit the download button!

4. Once your playlist is downloaded, test it out by playing it with your WiFi off. If your music plays while your WiFi is off, you're all set!

(Tip: You can turn your WiFi off by swiping down from the top of your screen until you see a volume slider, and selecting WiFi to turn it off. Then, you can swipe that screen away by putting your finger at the bottom of your screen and swiping upward. You can also turn it off by going back to your home screen and clicking the blue question mark to open the Help App > Open Android Settings > Network > WiFi > then toggling WiFi off at the top right.)

Troubleshooting

Here are some troubleshooting resources to help get you swimming with music!

Tidal also has great help videos and information. There are individual pages to show you how to Create a Playlist, Download Music.

How do I remove a playlist from my Delphin?

On your Delphin, open Tidal by clicking on the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and selecting the app. Go to 'My Collections' and choose ‘Playlists’. Find the playlist you would like to remove and tap on the small green circle across from 'Download'. Tidal will then ask you to check if you want to remove the download.

If you select ‘Delete Playlist’ this will delete the playlist from your entire account, not just the Delphin.

How do I uninstall the Tidal app on my Delphin?

On the home screen of your Delphin, click the three white horizontal lines at the bottom of your screen and scroll until you find your Tidal app. Hold down on the app until a new menu appears. Select 'Uninstall.' We recommend turning your Delphin off and back on again after uninstalling.

My Tidal music is not playing while off of WiFi.

There are a couple of things that can cause this issue:

1. Make sure your playlists are downloaded onto your Delphin by following Step 3 above.

2. At least once a month, you will need to reconnect your Delphin to the internet to allow Tidal to verify that your account is active. This will still matter even if you use your Tidal account on your phone or computer. The Delphin Player has to be reconnected once a month to the internet so that any paid subscription apps (Audible, Spotify, etc.) can verify for billing purposes.

My Tidal app is only playing static

To fix this issue, you'll need to change the sound quality for both streaming music and downloaded music from 'master' to 'normal'. You can do this by going to:

My Collection (the heart icon in bottom right corner) > settings (gear in top right corner) > scroll to quality > Streaming > change quality to normal
.

For downloads:

My Collection (the heart icon in bottom right corner) > settings (gear in top right corner) > scroll to quality > Downloads > change quality to normal
