Mini Triathlon: Which Location is Most Fun

If you are looking to do a triathlon, you’re probably aware you must consider many factors such as weather, time of year, whether it’s flat or if you’re dealing with hills, etc when deciding on a location. We’re going to look at a some of the most desirable locations for a triathlon.

San Francisco, California

Escape From Alcatraz is a triathlete favorite. It starts off with a 1.5 mile swim from the famous Alcatraz island, followed by a 18 mile bike ride allowing you to take in the scenic beauty of San Francisco, and is finished with an 8 mile run, part of which takes you over the Golden Gate Bridge. But keep in mind San Francisco is all hills, so your endurance will be tested throughout the triathlon.

Boulder, Colorado

The triathlon in Boulder Colorado is another triathlete favorite. You are able to take in the breathtaking views and scenery of the Rocky Mountains, which is unlike any other location in the world.

Living and training in Boulder is a triathlete’s dream. It’s not unusual to cross paths with an Olympian or an IRONMAN World Champion running on a trail or out on the road cycling.
Your mind may jump to the first obstacle, which is the weather. Colorado is known for its extreme weather especially in the winter. Since it’s so dry, it doesn’t feel so cold and can be hovering around 32 degrees and it is still pleasant to go out for a run, especially if it’s sunny. They actually have a lot of sunshine here year round. If you are a resident of Boulder, you gain an advantage through proximity to world-class coaches and other resources such as physical therapists, massage therapists and nutritionists who specialize in athletes. Not only that but you get to rub shoulders with the pros and provide home-stays for a professional triathlete.

Miami, Florida

Miami is a dream vacation in itself, so what could be better than participating in a triathlon in Miami? Miami is one of the few places in the country where non-wetsuit open water swimming is possible all year round. In the winter, temperatures rarely dip below 55 degrees Fahrenheit at night. The water is warm because the weather tends to be hot and humid, especially in the summer, so it is a factor you should consider. A bonus of the Miami triathlon is  one of the largest triathlon clubs (South Florida Triathletes) is based down here, along with dozens of smaller clubs as well as USAT coaches.
There are literally hundreds of choices when it comes to choosing which triathlon location to participate at. These few were just some favorites picked by triathletes. No matter where you do a triathlon you are in for the time of your life and will create memories that will last a lifetime!
